About the Artist…
Marian Schwindeman

Marian Schwindeman began her career as a photographer. She studied art and photography at Southern Connecticut University in New Haven and Parsons School of Design/The New School in New York City. She was a staff photographer for Rock Magazine and The Westport News in the late 1970’s. Marian also contributed to the Village Voice, NY Rocker, Circus Magazine, Newsweek and Time, among other publications.

Marian started working in publishing in 1978 and held various senior level positions such as Publisher and Founder of Premiere Magazine and Executive Vice President of Marketing for Entertainment Weekly Magazine. In 1997, Marian became the Senior Vice President of Global Marketing for Polo Ralph Lauren; and in 2000, she became the Executive Vice President of Marketing for the Limited.

In 1998, Marian Schwindeman was named by Advertising Age as one of the “25 Top Women” in the marketing/advertising field. For many years, she was a board member of Telluride Film Festival, a member of the Spirit Circle for Film Independent, and on the advisory board of the Los Angeles Film Festival. She has served on the board of the Film Forum and is currently an advisor for Channel Thirteen (WNET in NYC, a public television station).

 

 


Marian Schwindeman returned to her artwork seriously in 2000. Her work is mixed media. She creates her work using mainly collage and acrylic painting, as well as drawing from her own photography.

Marian grew up in Westport, CT and now resides both in Redding, CT and New York City. Marian’s work appeared in a group show at “Here is New York” Gallery in Soho, NYC in 2001. She had her first solo show at Jet Set in South Norwalk, CT in the spring of 2005. Her work was again featured as a solo show at the White Columns Gallery-W Hotel Times Square, NY in November and December of 2005.

Since then, Marian has been a featured artist in NYC and CT. This includes exhibits in group shows at Jim Kempner Fine Art in Chelsea in NYC and Silvermine in New Canaan, CT.  She will formally join the Jim Kempner Fine Art Gallery with a solo show in the spring of 2012.
